One year ago I shipped out my first Candles By Stephen design, and those candles were shades of blue and white. Knowing that I wanted to do another variation of the blue and white for this January, I began to think about what January meant to me.
Naturally one thinks of snow, ice, winter weather. But these things have been the last things on my mind since we had hardly any snow to speak of. So I reminded myself of one year ago, when I was making these candles. I made that first shipment and left for vacation to Fenwick Island with Matt and Buddha. The beach in the winter inspired me quite a bit. You might recall that it was a photograph that I took while there that inspired August's design, the ever popular Beach Candle.
So my January candle is in a way a tribute to the winter ocean's colors and scents.
Deeper in color on the bottom, to lighter on top. The fragrances used are a blend of several winter scents( New Fallen Snow, Frost covered berries) and beach scents (Beach walk, Ocean water), culminating in a very wintery water scent.
These candles are available only for a limited time of the remainder of January (about one week) and are available only while supplies last.

December conjures up many memories in my mind. As a child growing up in Pennsylvania,
we would frequently miss school in December as the snow would obscure roads for days on
end. These were always the most magical of times. My brothers and I would take out our
sleds and spend hours sledding downs the hills of our neighborhood, making snowmen,
having the obligatory snowball fight, and then coming inside to thaw out in front of our fireplace
with some hot chocolate.
The sights of my childhood yard transformed by snow have always stuck in my memory. The
plentiful pine trees sagged shouldering the weight of their white blanket of winter. And the other
thing that always comes to mind - the silence. While standing outside in a yard that was absolutely
full of snow, there is barely a sound.
Inside, holiday scents of ginger and spice would drift around, making my stomach rumble ever so
slightly after an afternoon of sledding and running around with my brothers. These were truly the best
of times. The holidays seem to bring the best out in us, and we in turn bring the best out of the holidays.
That is what I have tried to do with the December candles. These candles feature 3 colors, a light green,
a cranberry red, and an icy white. Snowflake oil is then added to give the candle a frosted look. The
fragrances are Winter Pine, Mistletoe, New Fallen Snow, Frost Covered Berries, Gingerbread and Spice.

NOVEMBER

The two seasons in which nature shows her most plentiful colors are always Spring and Fall. As perennials and spring bulbs emerge from the ground, their purple, yellows and whites emerge as trees bud up, promising leaves to come. As Summer passes and Fall settles in, the leaves reflect the change. The colors that were once green and vibrant change to bright and day glow yellows, oranges, deep reds, and eventually to brown. The cycle completes itself as Winter moves in and we wait for Spring to come again.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, the leaves would always hit their peak in October, but since I have lived in Virginia I have seen this change happen more in November. As I walk my dog around our neighborhood, I often take my camera, snapping shots of the gorgeous foliage in it's festive display. In the past weeks I have looked at these photos and used them as inspiration for the November candles.
Like leaves themselves, these candles are all different and unique. They go from brown at the base to oranges, reds and yellows. The scents are November Leaves and Pumpkin Brittle.

OCTOBER

October is one of my favorite months. The harvest time starts with that change of air that was first only a hint in September now taking hold of the nights. The nights are darker and the leaves are ablaze with color. Jack O' Lanterns grin out from porches in the evenings. Corn stalks are bunched together and posted on either sides of gates and doors. The smell of leaves and wind fall apples throws a rich
and musky scent into the air. And on those nights as the wind whistles through the trees and you light the first fire of the year, October's candle design will be a welcome companion by your side.

September is a cool color month in my memories of it. Where I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, it was a time when the air started to grow that first chill of Fall in the evenings. A month where campfires and bonfires light evening gatherings as a means of warmth and illumination on the cooling nights.
September is also classy. It is back to school for many. It is time to break out the Fall clothes. It is remembering sweaters that you forgot that you even had from last year.
September's CBS design features a moody purple base scented by "Campfire", topped with a swipe of a pale foggy blue that is scented by "Midnight Blue", and culminates in a blackish cap scented by "Night".

Due to popular demand and inquiry, my August design and scent will be the special design that I did back in the Spring, The beach themed candle. For those of you who don't recall, I took a picture of the beach while vacationing there this past winter, then crafted a candle design to match the picture exactly. The scents in the candle are Sun and Sand, Ocean Water, Ocean Breeze, and Midnight Beach. When you look at the candle, you glimpse what looks like an actual photo of the beach. I thought that this design was appropriate to the month of August, when everyone crams in one last beach trip before September begins and everyone goes back to school.

I hate to raise prices, but along with everything else, the prices of my supplies have gone up in the past 5 months, and it is simply not cost effective for me to keep the candles at the old prices. JULY CANDLES

Well, the colors of July are obvious to all. The colors of America will burn bright in your house with July's CBS design. July is also the month that I was born, and when decorating for the fourth, and my birthday which falls the day after, I love hanging all manner of patriotic decorations up around my house. I cut an arrangement of pink and blue hydrangeas, then stick in Queen Ann's Lace to give a red, white and blue feel. These candles will be a nice way to color up your house for America's birthday month.
The fragrances featured in this candle are apple pie, pomegranate, and blue sky. I am not usually a fan of food fragrances, but it was hard to resist the choice, so I then added pomegranate to cut the scent and add a twist to it, and the blue sky fragrance is a refreshing and clean breeze of a scent.

Here is a picture that my Mom sent me tonight. This is a picture of her table already set for Mother's Day dinner tomorrow. Candles By Stephen News - New Options Available!

I have some more news from CANDLES BY STEPHEN. I am now offering two other candle options available for sale immediately. One is the wax tart, an option for those who aren't really candle burners but have a candle warmer to enjoy the scents of a lighted candle. The other option is a floating candle.

I was asked to make an order of 100 votives and 4 Star Pillars for a special event. The theme of the event was a Beach theme.
I bandied this thought about and then a thought came to my mind. I took a photo while at the beach this past January, and it sprung to mind.

So I crafted a candle that represented that picture, tried to match it for color, and created a little wax snapshot of the beach that everyone who attends the event can take home with them.

I then made them all, keeping the original design as a road map for the rest.

March Candles are here!

March is the gateway to Spring. In like a Lion and out like a lamb, it is both a rough transitional period and also a month that ends in buds emerging from the earth, blossoms sprouting on trees and a sense that the harsh months of Winter are behind us.
The March candle is titled "Emergence".
This candle is my vision and design, and to me represents the strata of the earth up to soil level, and since March comes in like a lion, it is capped with a white and snowy top. As you burn the candle, the white will melt away. Not unlike the month itself.
The fragrances are composed of Pine, Apple Blossom, and faint traces of Cucumber and Melon.
Emergence is designed to look like your own little slice of spring earth, and it changes looks as it melts. Capture your very own piece of the upcoming Spring season and order one of our subscription packages today!

FEBRUARY CANDLES ARE HERE!
The February Candles feature a wide scope of colors, from magenta, to a soft and frosty pink, to a deeper crimson and ending in a silky and dark brown. These colors represent the many hues of this month. The dark brown represents the chocolate hues of Valentine's Day gifts, and the pinks and reds and whites represent the many flowers or cards that one receives in the month.
The candles are very fragrant, with two scents blended in: Roses and Romantic Moments.
If you subscribe before the end of the month to our candle subscription packages, you can still get the January order, and secure a February order as well!

After making homemade candles as Christmas gifts this past season, and after incredible feedback as to their design and scent, and due to many friends comments and advice, I am trying to start a new endeavor for myself. I am going to go ahead and sell my candles online, through this and a few other websites.
They come in many different colors and styles, can be custom made and designed to color specifics and sizes, but will always be one of a kind.
A new website devoted to this endeavor alone will be launched in the next day or two with much more information, but I wanted to go ahead and give a heads up to all of you, my faithful readers.
The featured candle style of January is pictured above and below. The design features a snowy white, pale baby blue, and deep navy to reflect the color characteristics of this Winter month. These candles are offered in votive size, medium oval size, and large star design size. Pricing is still being determined, but these will not be ridiculously priced. I want to sell these candles not only as a means to help support myself as an actor living in a very expensive city, but also because I genuinely LOVE designing and making them.
There will be a different candle theme/color scheme for each month of the year, plus other unique designs featured on the website, all available for purchase. I am also going to offer a candle of the month subscription, where the featured design of the month will be delivered to your house.
These candles make fantastic gifts (as I know from this past Christmas), and also look elegant anywhere in your house. More details will soon follow, along with the website, that will be linked on my side bar.
